„Jasmuiža” is the only museum of Rainis in Latgale, in which he spent the days of his youth.

The museum of Rainis is located in the middle of Latgale, in a quiet country corner, by the shore of the tiny river Jaša. The museum is located in three reconstructed and renovated buildings of Jasmuiža manor. The fourth building of the museum is the workshop of Andrejs Paulāns, a well-known craftsman of pottery in Latgale, that was reconstructed in the 1999. The museum buildings together with the open-air stage and over 5 ha of territory and park is a state-level historical monument.

The museum first opened its doors in August 16, 1964. In the midst of other museums that are devoted to Rainis, “Jasmuiža” is well known as the museum devoted to the youth days of the poet. Here from the 1883 till 1891 the future poet spent his gymnasium and university holidays, because, at that time, the manor was rented and managed by the father of Rainis, Krišjānis Pliekšāns.

"Jasmuiža” is also museum that is devoted to youthful romance and love, because right in Jasmuiža Rainis experienced his first romantic feelings. The object of these feelings was a maid named Tekla. She was often mentioned in his dairy, for example: “Teklīte came into the room looking so lovely, so seductive, and I did nothing. I regret, that I did nothing with Tekla, only dreamt of her, when she was gone".

The museum of Rainis “Jasmuiža” offers an exposition on poet’s gymnasium and university years in the reconstructed building that belonged to the steward. More than 30 years ago an exhibition hall was made in the renovated cow pasture, now there is an extensive Latgalian pottery exposition with more than 200 items of ceramists' hand-made tableware and decorative creations. In the workshop of Andrejs Paulāns, get acquainted with the environment in which Latgalian ceramists lived and worked in the late-19th century and early 20th century.

The museum holds events when opening up for a new season, kiln firing and opening events, and yearly Poetry day events.

P.S. There are two bridges in the territory of the museum. If you make a wish while you're passing them, the wishes will definitely come true. Use the large swings to rock your yourselves, kids or other loved ones.
